John Michael Case, 73, passed away on Saturday December 31, 2022 while in hospice care at his home in Chesapeake, VA. John was born November 4, 1949, to Arlene Darden Case and was also raised by his adoptive father Robert H Case in Norfolk, VA. He was a graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk and the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA.
John was a member of Army ROTC while in college. After college he remained a Reserve Commissioned Officer until 1987 when he received an Honorable Discharge. Immediately after returning from basic training, he began working at Atlantic Paper Stock Company in Norfolk. He rose through the ranks of the waste paper industry to become Vice President of Butler Paper Recycling in Suffolk, VA.
John married Kathy Ellis Meekins of VA Beach in 1973 and relocated to Chesapeake, VA. John and Kathy had two children, Christian and Alex. John loved history and was a member of the Civil War Round Table. He loved boating, he coached youth soccer, taught Sunday School, and was the NEST coordinator at GBUMC. In recent years at Hickory Ridge Community Church, he began working with the prison ministry and loved leading his small group Bible study. He loved traveling, especially to the Caribbean to scuba dive. Family summer and Christmas trips to Cape May, NJ every year were a joy to him as well as attending and supporting Cape May Stage productions.
John was predeceased by his mother Arlene and father Robert. He is survived by his son Christian (Laura) and daughter Alex Celentano (Paul), four grandchildren- Jake and Kristin Case and Vera and Frankie Celentano, and a host of friends within his church community and paper recycling industry.
A memorial service will be held at Hickory Ridge Community Church, 3320 South Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23322, on Saturday January 14th at 2:00 with reception to follow. All friends and family are welcome. Please join us casually dressed and ready for a celebration of life.
