John P. Dugan, Jr.
Chesapeake- CPO John “Jack” P. Dugan, Jr., 81, of Chesapeake, VA went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2018.
A 21 year U.S. Navy Veteran born in Cook County, IL. Together forever in love, he is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Ann Dugan. He joined the Navy in 1955. In 1959 when stationed in Charleston, SC, he met and married the love of his life. Their military deployments took them to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Yokosuka, Japan and Rome, Italy. His final duty station was in Norfolk, VA on the USS Trenton (LPD14) and retired in 1977. He earned an associate’s degree and finished his career with the Civil Service as an Educational Service Officer at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA retiring in 1998. Also preceding him in death are his parents, Mae Nelson and John P. Dugan, Sr.; and sister Lucille Nichols.
John will be lovingly remembered by his sister Jeannette Vanbeek of Sun City, AZ; three children, John (Wanda) Dugan, III of Forest City, NC; Donna (David) Johannesen of Chesapeake; and Michael (Kris) Dugan of Lee’s Summit, MO; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Jenn) Johannesen, Amanda Johannesen and fiancé Chris Dowling, Candace (Dustin) Rice, Ché (Justin) Jones, John Dugan, IV, Matthew Dugan and Connor Dugan; five great-grandchildren Clayton, Kayden, Skylar, Blake, and Kinslee.
John served as a Scout Master in the Transatlantic Council in Rome, Italy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 1325 West Walnut Hill Lane, Irving, TX 75015.
