John R. Lang
Virginia Beach – John Ragan Lang, 80, died Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Kindred-Bay Pointe in Virginia Beach, where he had been a resident since December 2006. John was born in Wheelersburg, Ohio on December 30, 1936. John was predeceased by his parents, George J. Lang & Wilma B. (Haggard) Lang Leavitte, and his sister, Constance J. “Connie” Lang.
John attended Henryville High School in Henryville, Indiana and earned his GED in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He attended Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana in 1960 – 1961. John earned a Microprocessor based Equipment Technicians Course Certificate in 1986 from Van Isle Industrial Education Centre in BC, Canada. He also earned a Welding, Level “C” Certificate from Malaspina College in Nanaimo, BC, Canada in 1988.
John served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1959, and was assigned to the U.S.S. Salem, CA-139 during the Mediterranean Cruise 1956 – 1958. He traveled the World and treasured all his adventures. John loved to read.
John was the resident caretaker at Habonim Camp Miriam at Gabriola Island, BC, Canada for 7 years. He was employed by Aetna Insulated Wire Company in Virginia Beach as a Maintenance Mechanic from 1988 – 1996 when he took a medical retirement due to a disability. He also worked part time for Green Thumb as a receptionist at Virginia Beach Recreation Center Great Neck from 1999 – 2003.
John is survived by his brother, Colonel Marlin C. (Mary) Lang of Seminole, Florida and his son’s : Ian R. Lang of Canada, John R. Lang, Jr. and Martin R. Stickans.
John requested that no services be held and that his cremains be scattered in the Gulf Stream of the Atlantic Ocean off the Coast of Virginia Beach by a friend.
