John (Jack) Robert Driscoll Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 16, 2025, just a few weeks before his 81st birthday.
Jack was born on March 7, 1944, to John and Eleanor Driscoll. He spent most of his youth in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania before earning an undergraduate degree from St. Joseph’s University. He then joined the Navy and later attended the Naval Postgraduate School in California, where he earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. Jack served in the Navy from 1966 to 1992, retiring as a Captain after 26 years of service.
In 1969, he married the love of his life, Jean, and they shared 55 wonderful years together before her passing on January 10, 2025. Throughout his naval career, Jack and his family lived in Norfolk, Virginia; Monterey, California; Subic Bay, Philippines; and Springfield, Virginia, before eventually settling in Virginia Beach. There he and Jean raised their two children, Karen (Kari) Driscoll and Keith Driscoll.
Jack had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping in his free time. His career revolved around his passion for repairing ships in one way or another, this passion extended into his personal life—where his love for tinkering and fixing almost anything around the house was only surpassed by his love of helping friends and neighbors fix something at their house. When not outside or fixing an item for someone, Jack found purpose, support, and most of all friendships through nearly 30 years of active participation in group meetings across Virginia Beach. He also enjoyed watching sports, particularly football, basketball, and golf, and dates with Jean to the Wells Theater. Best of all, Jack was an amazing friend and father figure to many who knew him.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his parents, John and Eleanor Driscoll; and his brother, Tom Driscoll. He will be dearly missed by his children, Kari Driscoll and Keith (Hillary) Driscoll; his grandchildren, Ryan Driscoll and Sean Driscoll; and many loving friends.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the American Heart Association.
