John W. Coleman Sr. Jack, 88, of Virginia Beach went to be with the lord on April 12, 2013. Jack proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from Burton Lumber Co. He was a member of Courthouse Community UMC, the Southside Lions Club, and was an avid woodworker. After retirement Jack and Virginia moved to the Outer Banks, NC where they were members of Kitty Hawk Methodist Church. They had a wonderful life and circle of friends. His greatest pleasure was working in his yard, the view of the sound, and his children and grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Virginia F. Coleman, daughter Debra C. Brown and husband Walter C. Brown, son John W. Coleman Jr., and wife Jada G. Coleman, four grandchildren; Sean W. Brown Lauren, Julie C. Biller Mike, Kristen B. Smith Shannon, and John W. Coleman III Nicole, and five great grandchildren; Lily and Gavin Brown, Gray and Tanner Coleman, and Leighton Biller.
A Funeral service will be held on Tues. April 16, at 1:00 pm at Courthouse Community UMC. Memorial Donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp.

Diana and I are very sorry for your loss. We have fond memories of visiting your Dad and family in his home on the sound in the outer banks. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Virginia, Johnny, Debra and family. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of Jack. We have fond memories of our good times as next door neighbors on Bay Drive, Kill Devil Hills. Jack loved to work in his yard as we did in ours and I think the Colemans and Briggs had the most beautiful yards on the Drive. Jack and Virginia entertained with such grace. They made their guests feel so welcome in their home. To attend one of their parties was a special pleasure. May God comfort you all in this time of sorrow. John and Ruth Briggs

To all of my Chesapeake relatives, I will never forget the positive impact that Jack had on me his nephew, Jimmy, his sense of humor, his toughness, and his gentleness. In my memory and in my thoughts, Jack will live on with my dad, Dick, brothers Jim, Allen and Fritz, and sister Casey. This was a crew that broke the mold. They were all tough as nails on the outside, and gentle as lambs on the inside. My elder Colemans will never be forgotten.
