John Yanchick, 85, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully at The Gardens of Warwick Forest nursing home on Sunday, December 15, 2019. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life mass at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 14, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 116 Denbigh Blvd., Newport News, Virginia 23608.
John was born June 23, 1934, in Exeter, Pennsylvania, to Michael and Anna Mae (Sholtis) Yanchick. He graduated from Wyoming High School and attended The Pennsylvania State University. John was employed as a computer programmer and later as a program manager in the Washington, D.C. area. After retirement, he moved to Newport News, Virginia, where he enjoyed gardening, square dancing, and caring for his many rescue dogs. During his retirement, he returned to work several times, doing odd jobs at Symantec Corporation and NASA Langley Research Center.
Surviving are daughter, Jonay Campbell of Yorktown, Virginia; son, John W. Yanchick of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Skyler, Aidan, and Connor; sisters, Rita Chiavacci of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Regina Hrichison, of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anna; his first wife, Dolores; his sister, Anna Mae Jackson; and nephew, Michael Chiavacci.
Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with arrangements.
