Jonathan Gregory Creede, 73, passed away Friday, July 28, 2023 at his home in Norfolk, Virginia, with his loving wife and son by his side. Jon was born February 10, 1950 to Joyce and Loren “Bud” Creede in Auburn, New York. His family soon moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where Jon graduated from Scottsdale High School.
Jon attended Arizona State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. His life was spent in service to others. He was a Probation and Parole Officer with the Commonwealth of Virginia for over thirty years. He provided guidance and expertise in rehabilitation and drug abuse to countless individuals who deserved another chance at life. Jon was an adamant believer in second chances, except when it came to the Washington Nationals. The Norfolk Tides and Baltimore Orioles ultimately became his passion, along with a lifelong love of history, movies, and adventures. He loved to travel anywhere, anytime, but especially to visit family.
Jon fought his battle against cancer for over 13 years. Despite spending much of that time in doctors’ offices, he never lost his sense of humor and gentle, kind spirit. Throughout his entire journey, he continued to crack jokes with his wife, children, and anyone who needed a laugh. He was always ready to play with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and, of course, any dog within sight. He had a great ability to make others smile and his laughter and love will be sorely missed.
Special thanks to Dr. Goudar, Dr. Ordonez, and the entire team at Virginia Oncology Associates for taking such good care of Jon.
Jon’s memory will be honored and cherished by his wife Sherryl, his children and stepchildren; Gregory, Miriam, Eric, Tatiana, and Alex, as well as his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be forever remembered as a Slip ‘N Slide legend by the whole family.
Jon’s life will be celebrated by family and friends on Monday, August 7, 2023. Please contact the Creede family for details and bring your best stories about Jon.
