Jose Angel Rosado, Sr.
May 3, 1936, to March 4, 2023
Jose Angel Rosado, Sr., devoted husband and father, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, in Chesapeake, VA, while surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Jose was born on May 3, 1936, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He was the third of four children born to Sandalio and Dolores Rosado. As a child, Jose learned the art of bread baking from his dad, who worked at the local bakery, but Sandalio’s sudden death found Jose having to support his mom and siblings at just 12 years old.
Jose, his mom and siblings moved to New York in 1957. In 1962, while working as a delivery driver for a doll factory, Jose met Gertrudis Velazquez, who would become the love of his life for the next 60 years. They were married on February 9, 1963, and settled in Brooklyn, NY.
Their marriage brought forth three boys. Jose’s family was everything to him. Jose and Getrudis raised their family in the Catholic faith. Jose would fill his family’s time with church activities at Sacred Heart Chapel, where he served three terms as president of the Men’s Group. On the weekends, Jose and Gertrudis loved taking their young family by train for a day in Manhattan, Coney Island, or Prospect Park for softball games.
In 1998, Jose retired after 25 years with the Sheridane Designs Clothing Co. and moved to Chesapeake, VA to be closer to their grandchildren. As more family relocated to Chesapeake, Jose was able to finally see the fruits of his devotion to family and hard work.
As long-time residents of the Greenbrier Senior Apartments, Jose and Gertrudis were considered the “jewels” of the building.
Jose is survived by Gertrudis Rosado, his wife of 60 years, and their three sons, Jose Angel Rosado, Jr. (Audrey Rosado), David Rosado (Janet Rosado), and Alberto Rosado (Yvonne Rosado), seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

“Papi”, your light was quenched on earth, only to be re-lit forever in heaven.
As you enjoyed saying when you said goodbye, “Hasta la vista, baby.”
“Vamonos!”
¿Quien Soy?
