It is with great sadness that the family of Josefina E. Oscco, 96, announce her passing peacefully at home to be with our Lord on March 27, 2024.
Born in Peru, the second oldest in her family of 5, she left her home at the age of 10 to work in the city of Lima. Returning in her teens to care for her younger sister and brother after her parent’s death, she continued to work hard finding loving homes for them until she was of age. She emigrated to the US in 1959 on a work visa, proudly becoming a US citizen in 1977 and eventually brought over her sister’s family to start a new life. She worked as a beloved caregiver/housekeeper for several families in New Jersey and New York during her lifetime. She was an active member of her church and a beloved friend and angel to those in need as well as a beloved sister and beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was very proud of and supported her 2 great-nephews Ryan and Jarod who were very active in the Boy Scouts with both becoming Eagle Scouts. Josefina enjoyed her life in New York City especially Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She also enjoyed traveling not only going to and from Peru to visit her brother’s family but also visiting Europe, Canada, Mexico as well as several states in the Northeast, the South and Western US. She had a full life sustained by her faith, love of family and a zest for life.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, Josefina was predeceased by her sister Melania and niece Lily. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Andres (Augusta), nieces Carmen (Gene), Maria, Marlene; nephews Michael (Deanna), Edward (Marian), Percy and a host of loving friends most notably Isabel and her daughters Daisy and Shirley.
Family was dear and precious to Josefina, and she will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities and/or the Boy Scouts of America. Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family.
