Virginia Beach-
Joseph Daniel Sloan died on Thursday, Aug. 31, surrounded by family after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was the son of Alice and Joseph Sloan, born in 1934 and raised in Providence, RI where he graduated from LaSalle Academy and attended the University of RI.
Joe met his “bride” Nancy in NYC at Bloomingdales. After marriage they moved to Richmond, VA where he was employed by Allied Chemical, and subsequently worked in engineering sales for the Foxboro Co and Honeywell. Joe was honored by several awards for outstanding sales including Honeywell’s prestigious President’s Club.
Loving the water and Sandbridge in particular, the Sloan clan built their “Gullway Bay” home in Va. Bch. in the 80’s. After
retirement, Joe volunteered at the VMS Aquarium for 14 years as a docent, and as a narrator on Dolphin and Whale Watch boats. When the Aviation Museum opened, Joe was a dedicated volunteer there, as well.
Joe was the ultimate family-and-friends man, and he was well-loved in return. He was predeceased by his son David. His son Daniel, wife Kanae and children Theo and Sera will deeply feel his loss, as will his son Sean, Sean’s children Kaitlyn and Collin, Joe’s daughter-in-love Rebecca and “Miss Trish”, his fellow Red Sox fan and sister-in-law. His wife Nancy will be forever warmed by the memories of fifty-five joy-filled years together.
The family will gather for a private celebration of Joe’s life at a later date.
