Joseph Jean Heroux, 91, of Norfolk, VA, passed away April 1, 2021, after a battle with Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Heroux, children, Jeanne Ferguson and David Heroux (Cornelia), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Marie Heroux.
Born June 23, 1929, in Coventry, Rhode Island, to Ernest and Dora Heroux, he served two years in the Army as a paratrooper. Joe later enlisted in the Navy and served 20 years in the submarine service. He was on the commissioning crew of the USS Skipjack SSN 585 and was her last known living plank holder.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital, Dogwood Unit, for the care and comfort given to Joe during his stay.
Funeral details are being finalized and will be private.
