Tammy and I met Joe and Sue through a mutual friend, and we all became friends instantly. He was a great man all around, a role model and mentor for many. Until we meet again, Joe - We love and miss you.

I was so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing during the holidays. We worked together for five years at WCMS. He was a pleasure to work with, always bright and cheerful. Prayers to the Hoppel family. He was a radio treasure and now a legend!

I first tuned into WCMS when I got stationed here in 1967. Joe was like an old friend when I heard him on the radio. Enjoyed his show very much. I was happy for Joe when he retired but sad for me. Never found another station DJ that I liked as much as Joe. I really liked his sign off and have used it often. There are times someone will say “you listened to Joe Hoppel” I sure did. Miss you Joe. I know you and Sue are back together now.

I first met Joe and Sue in May of 1988, when I moved to Virginia Beach. We were at an Ascension picnic. It wasn’t until a few weeks later when I turned into a country music station that I learned I was sitting and sharing a meal with this wonderful local celebrity. The thing about Joe was he didn’t present as a big celebrate. He was a very kind and down to earth man. I especially loved the Sundays that he was the elector. When he read the Bible passages, it was almost as if I was there. That beautiful voice. One thing that I learned from this bigger than life man, was to always wish everyone I talked to daily was to have a great day! So Joe, thank you for your kindness, what you have done for our Ascension family and our community. You certainly are a shining example of a disciple of God. Until we meet again, Rest in Peace! Job well done.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Mike, Terri, Debbie and Judy, I often remember fun times with the Hopple family , I carry the memories with me to this day . I won’t ever forget the piano that played itself in your family room, the music was beautiful and brought lots of laughter with all the kids running in and out! Your parents were so kind and caring to our family and were ALWAYS there for our mother Corinne. May you all be uplifted knowing your Dad always had his arms open to make this world a better place . You all are in my prayers .
