Joseph Scott Hafner, 21, of Hampton, passed away March 4, 2023. He is survived by his adoptive mother Dawn Hafner, adoptive father Scott Hafner, his sister Haley Hafner, his biological mother Lisa McFarling, his aunt Martha, and many other family members and friends.

Joey grew up in Newport News, VA where he attended Woodside High School. He lived in Hampton where he enjoyed listening to music and talking/texting with his friends and family. Joey had some struggles, but he had a huge heart and loved fiercely. He would do anything for his family and friends. He made everyone who knew him laugh, cry, angry, and frustrated. But Joey was going to be Joey, love him or hate him. Our broken hearts will forever feel the loss and emptiness of his absence.

Our family is grateful to know that Joey is finally at peace.

A memorial service will be held on March 25th, 2023 at 2pm, at Denbigh United Presbyterian Church.

Joseph, The time you've been gone has really been hard for all of us. We all miss you dearly. I miss you more than you would have even imagined. I miss our talks, and us telling each other "I Love You" constantly. Knowing I can no longer have these talks with you is tearing at me more than I could have even known. You will ALWAYS be in our thoughts and we will love you for eternity. You were only here a short time, but you made a huge impact! Watch over us and know I will always love you son.

Joey, I miss you so much everyday. I just wish you were still here with us. I love you so much and know I will live the rest of my life for you and Haley. You will always be my special boy!!

Joseph Was always the sweetest 💕 a day won't go by that I won't remember the memories we had together he truly was a great person and had a sweet soul he was always was the funniest person i had ever met may if not been together but we were always better off best friends we fought but we always made things better I just wish last year I hugged you a bit tigher and we had talked longer than we did hun fly High to the heavens love xoxo -yourbuttcheese

he was my brother and my mentor me and him know each other since pretty much birth and after all I've seen Joey go through I know deep down that the real Joey was a loving caring deep-rooted person that showed such great love and respect and I miss him dearly everyday there's not one day I go without thinking about him and I know one day we will all meet again together and live in harmony 🕊️👼🏼😭

I did not know you, but Alex was my cousin. She loved tf outta you and would have done anything for you. i know she’s hurting right now. My condolences to his family and friends. I know how painful this must be. I send you all love and prayers.

He was always the sweetest and most caring person. He loved his family and friends so much. He was the best boyfriend and an amazing “adoptive/step” dad. May he rest in peace.
