Joseph Malvin Sparks, born January 18, 1953, in Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, in Locust Hill, Virginia, at the age of 73.
Joseph dedicated his life to hard work and simple pleasures. He spent many years in lawn maintenance, where he was known for his diligence and commitment to a job well done. Outside of work, he found joy in the timeless melodies of old school music, the rugged allure of Western films, and the satisfaction of working on cars.
A man of faith, Joseph was a member of First United Baptist Church, where he found community and solace throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Clifton L. Sparks and Emma J. Sparks; his son, Demetris B. Sparks; and his siblings Frances Hayes, Clifton Sparks, Patsy Reed, and Charlotte Cooke.
Joseph leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his daughter Casey and son Delano; granddaughters Jessica, Jewell, and Jennifer; sisters Pearl, Grace, and Joyce; his twin brother James; and brothers Fredric and William. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, along with many friends who were touched by his kindness and spirit.
Funeral services will be held May 30th, 2026 at First United Baptist Church at 10:00am, located at 6188 George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester, VA 23061. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and to celebrate the legacy Joseph leaves behind.
