Portsmouth, VA – Joyce Fredericka O’Mara, 80, of Westmoreland Avenue in Portsmouth was born on March 30, 1944 in Portland, Maine to the late Frederick Kane and the late Eleanor Leighton Kane.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael David O’Mara; son, Michael Hall; and daughter, Christine Setzer.
Joyce was a spunky and feisty lady who was adored by all who came in contact with her. She worked and volunteered in hospitals, schools and with disabled adults; however, she was most proud of her role of mother and taking care of her family. Joyce was strong in her faith and loved to make people smile. She was quite the prankster and delighted in bringing joy to others.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Susan Crabb and husband, Steven of Chesapeake, VA; nine grandchildren, Matthew Hall, Cameron Hall, Sean Murphy, Christopher Murphy, Kalyn Monreal, Ashlee Chapman, Ashley McMillen, Michael Setzer and Grace Setzer; and five great-grandchildren, Rylee, Denver, Sawyer, Colton and Laken who fondly referred to her as GiGi.
A private service with family and friends will be held at Emily Green Shores where she was adored by the staff and residents. Memorial contributions may be made to Westhaven Baptist Church, 4900 Caroline Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23707 where Joyce was a member. Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office, is assisting the family. Condolences may be made at www.vacremationsociety.com.
