Norfolk – Joyce Peterson, 72, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born in Norfolk, Va. and was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Pearson and William Sparrow, Sr.; brothers, William Sparrow, Jr. and Charles Sparrow, Sr., and Joyce was widowed by Bruce M. Peterson. A woman of courage and great strength, there is not enough words to describe how she touched each of those who knew her in a special way.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Darlene Franklin, Terry Pillsbury and Angelique Weatherford; brothers, John Sparrow Sr. and Wayne Sparrow; sister, Earline Sumpter and her husband Larry; loving companion, Gordon Heffner and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Altmeyer Funeral Home 5792 Greenwich Rd, Virginia Beach. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 4416 Expressway Dr., Va Bch, VA 23452 or to www.cancer.org. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements.
