Judith Ann Wright Maxie, born on March 18, 1949, and who loved to be called “momma and grandma”, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 24, 2021.

Judy was blessed with extraordinary music skills and filled with love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While Judy could pick up and play almost any instrument, she was best known for her professional skills as a pianist and organist. Judy shared her talents and love for the Lord in many ways: Teaching private piano lessons, Working as a school Music Teacher, Running a church daycare, Leading Vacation Bible School, Conducting church handbell choirs, Serving as Music Director for 3 different Churches, and much more.

Judy was last a member of Union Baptist Church in Gloucester, VA. Judy was preceded in death by her father, James Harold Wright. She is survived by her Mother, Gladys Wright; Husband of 49 years, Leroy; 2 children, Stephen (Alysia), Christi (Scott); 4 grandkids, Aaron, Jacob, Katelyn, Eli; 2 Sisters, Pam (George), Patty; Brother, Byron (Donna) and many extended family members.

A Musical Celebration of Life for Judy will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Union Baptist Church in Gloucester, VA. A private family inurnment will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Union Baptist Church, 9254 Guinea Road, Hayes, VA 23072.

Just found out about Judy’s passing. So saddened by the news. Judy and I were friends in high school—girls chorus and. A cappella choir. We even double dated with Judy and Leroy. I was class of ‘66. We just loss track of each other after graduation.

Praying for your whole family in this difficult time. May God help you to hold your happy memories a little bit tighter while you mourn your loss.

Mrs. Maxie had such a wonderful spirit! I will continue to keep your family uplifted in my prayers. You will be missed. xo

Judy made the world a happier place. We had so much fun together in college, studying and practicing hours at a time. We both played the organ for churches in Burlington, NC, and were often able to ride together, and enjoy that time talking and laughing. I will miss Judy every day, but I rejoice that she is healed now.

I remember Judy well from the day Alysia and Stephen got married. She was a wonderful lady. My deepest condolences.

My sincerest condolences to Judy's entire family and especially to her mom Mrs. Gladys Wright. Judy and I were good friends through high school at Warwick High. May your memories of Judy sustain you in your grief.

Judy was a special person who touched many lives with her musical gifts. So many fond memories of her patience and teaching abilities. She will be missed. Prayers for the entire family during this difficult time.

Judy and I met when she starting playing the organ at Union Baptist Church. My husband, Bill, went up to her one Sunday and said I used to know a boy named Leroy Maxie that went to Riverside Baptist Church. She said that would be him. Bill and Leroy"s father were good christian friends. We all became fast friends and the rest is history.I will always remember Judy as one of the kindest people I have ever met.During her whole illness, I never asked her how she was that she didn"t say I'm fine.How many of us can even say that on a good day. I will miss her every day.

I remember Judy from Warwick High School Class of 1967. She was a very warm and caring person.

Judy was a big part of growing up for me. She showed me so many things musically. I have great memories of singing hymns with her and learning harmony with that upright piano. We’ll all miss you dearly. ❤️
