Julia "Butch" Redd Shumaker

Julia “Butch” Redd Shumaker, 86, of Virginia Beach passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021.

Julie was born in Mecklenburg Co., VA near Clarksville on July 26th, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Lee and Emily Satterfield Redd, sisters Marjorie Crickenberger, Joyce Jenkins, and brother Edward.

A petite, feisty Southside Virginia girl, Julie’s family meant everything to her and she’d be in your corner through thick and thin. She loved playing poker with the neighbors, shopping for thoughtful gifts, or just lying in the sun on Croatan beach or in the backyard. She will be missed and loved forever.

She is survived by the love of her life, husband William (Bill) Preston Shumaker with whom she eloped in 1954, sons Brian, Robert (Susan), and Mark (Karen) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Julie’s life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Dementia Society, Alzheimer’s Association, or to a charity of your choice.

I am so sorry for the Shumaker's loss.your wife and mom was definitely a strong willed woman, she spoke her mind for sure. She loved her boys, nothing could come between her and her sons. They would argue hard in the day and she would turn around make them some good dinners & a six pack of budweiser. I do miss her laugh she was tough. We moved into the house next door to the Shoemaker’s in 1969... Ms. Shoemaker was ALWAYS so very nice to me growing up and in later years.
