June Anne Franks Johnston went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 8, 2023 at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother. June is survived by her husband James “Jim” of 58 years, retired Navy Commander, son Russell, daughter Valerie and grandchildren Savannah, Chord, Dylan and Sophia. June was raised in Siler City, NC, received her high school diploma and AA at Wingate Junior College and a BS from Appalachian State.

She taught Social Studies in Hampton HS, Deep Creek HS, St. Mary’s Catholic school in Orange, TX and the Overseas Defense System in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. June met her future husband Jim in St.Paul’s Episcopal Church in 1964, and were married in June 1965 in the Chapel in The Wood on NAS Norfolk. June was an exceptional Navy wife, raising two children, moving, setting up our home, and doing all of this by herself while Jim was deployed. June became a Christian at about the age of 8 and has been involved in churches, bible studies and home groups. She loved to study the Bible and teach Bible studies, which she did where ever she lived. A Service of Remembrance will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 on October 28 at The Chesapeake Retirement Center, 955 Harpersville Road, Newport News. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Covenant Church of the Benevolent Fund in The Chesapeake Retirement Center.
