On July 27, 2023, with family by her side, June Thomas received her wings and now walks with the angels. She was 77 years old. It would be wrong to say that June lost her battle with Cancer because she never truly stopped fighting. When anyone else would have broken, June remained strong. In fact, most who heard her story believed she was a walking miracle. Through her, we all know what resilience, perseverance and faith truly look like.
June was an exceptional wife, mother, and grandma. She cared deeply for her family and friends to the point many, although not related, considered her as their own. This was just simply who she was. She was selfless and the first to offer help, even during tough times. June always ensured that every child who came into her home was safe, healthy, happy, and especially fed. June was a compassionate spirit whose true passion was caring for others. Since moving to Virginia June has been a member of Indian River Baptist Church where she was blessed to have a wonderful church family, enjoyed fellowship, and had a true love for the choir. After retirement June volunteered with the women’s shelter, crisis hotline, hospital and Cancer center.
She was predeceased by her mother (Gertrude), father (Roy), brother (Joe), daughter (Lisa)and husband (Robert).
She leaves to cherish two daughters, Diana and Tracy, two sisters Glenna (Dennis) and Debbie, two nieces Ann and Ellysa, four nephews Jeph (Silvia), Jake (Julia), Robert (Sarah) and Kenny, four grandchildren Jaymi (Rob), Aaron (Brianna), Noah, and Kieara along with three great grandchildren, Hannah, Mason, Ronin, and a host of family and friends.
Her family grieves for her loss, but they take comfort in knowing that she is at peace and now with others we have lost before her.
A celebration of June’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday August 19, 2023 at Indian River Baptist Church. 1600 Laurel Ave Chesapeake VA 23325.
Services will also be livestreamed.
