June Vergara Henley passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024, after a 23-year battle with cancer. Up until the end June maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of beauty, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful and varied experiences.
June was born May 22, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Jean Patricia Wojeck and Carlos Vergara. June had three siblings – Bobby Garguilo, Raymond Vergara and Billy Lee.
Upon graduation from John Bertram High School June moved to Virginia Beach to help her aunt with childcare. It was in Virginia Beach where she met her husband of 65 years, Amos L. Henley, Jr.
June and Amos had two daughters, Debra, married to John Laughlin and Stephanie, married to Mike Remington. They had four grandchildren, John, Victoria, Emily, and Jake. June was also able to meet her two great grandchildren, Olivia, and Mikey.
June had many hobbies. She worked at Sentara Leigh in the payroll department and then as a pharmacy tech. Once she retired from the hospital, she took up her real passion of preparing taxes working at H&R Block. She appreciated all things finance to include bookkeeping and journaling. June enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to travel and had visited numerous places around the world. She especially loved to cruise and had the opportunity to tour many foreign ports. June loved hanging out with her three amigas of 60 plus years – Charlotte Corbett, Cookie Bunch & Leslie Pelton. Their adventures, antics and stories are a tale for another time. She also enjoyed many traveling adventures with her longtime neighbors Don and Betty Newsome.
June was predeceased by her husband, Amos, mother Jean Lee, sister Bobby, brother Billy. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, her brother Raymond, his wife Aunt Mary and sister-in-law Janet Lee.
