Karen A. Casterline-Hammond passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2023, in Norfolk, Va. surrounded by her daughters and son-in-law. Karen was born on June 7, 1944, to Dwight and Kathryn Casterline. She was a 1962 graduate of Granby High School.
Karen was married to Timothy Hammond, her high school sweetheart for 60 years. She worked for Norfolk Public Schools in the Administration Building where she retired in 2010.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, Karen was also predeceased by her husband Timothy Hammond. Left to cherish her memory are her 2 daughters, Cynthia J Black of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and Christina E Brinker (Richard) of Norfolk, Va, her grandson Zachary Brinker of Norfolk, Va, her sister, Donna Wilson (Wayne) of Virginia Beach, Va, her brother Gary Casterline (Denise) of Virginia Beach, Va, and her sweet little dog, Molly.
Karen had an unwavering love for her husband, daughters, and grandson and fur babies. Karen was without a doubt the best mother anyone could have ever had. She was very dearly loved by all and will be missed by so many. There are no services planned at this time. Below is a poem that we dedicate to our mom, Karen. We love and miss you so much.
Only One Mother
You can only have one mother.
Patient, kind and true.
No other friend in all the world,
Will be the same to you.
When other friends forsake you,
To mother you will return,
For all her loving kindness,
She asks nothing in return.
As we look upon her picture,
Sweet memories we recall,
Of a face so full of sunshine,
And a smile for one and all.
Sweet Jesus, take this message,
To our dear mother up above.
Tell her how we miss her,
And give her all our love.
