Katherine (Kitty) St James of Virginia Beach, Va. died on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2025. She is profoundly missed by her daughter Yardley and friends. One of Kitty’s big goals in life was to live to be 100 years old. She died at 95 years of age which is quite an accomplishment.
Kitty was born in Chelsea, London. She was evacuated as a child to Wales during World War II (where her parents were born) and Wales was always her heart’s home. She began her working life at the American Embassy in London and during this time she met and married Ronald Edwin Price, an American serviceman. After moving to the US with her husband and daughter Yardley, and many military moves later, Washington State became home where, sadly, Kitty was widowed young. Always an animal lover, she bought and ran a horse stable for many years where she and Yardley boarded and cared for horses. Over the years they owned and loved many dogs, but Sandy was her all-time favorite. After moving to Virginia Beach Kitty worked for the Virginia Beach Public Libraries for 38 years. She always enjoyed working with the public and answering and researching their questions. Often, library customers would greet her with a smile when she was out in the community.
Kitty is predeceased by her parents Thomas John and Amy Smart Davies; her brother Henry (Harry) Davies; and her husband, Ronald Edwin Price. She is survived by her daughter Yardley; sister-in-law Rosemary (Min); niece Kate Snow and her husband David Snow, and their children Luke and Lily Snow; and nephew Martin Davies and his wife Elizabeth (Liz) Davies, and their children Sophie and James Davies.
Kitty preferred not to have a funeral or service. Since she embodied compassion for others and did not like to see people homeless or in need, please consider remembering Kitty by passing on a simple act of kindness to someone.
If you wish, and in lieu of flowers, please visit https://samaritanhouseva.org/donate/make-a-donation to make a one- time donation in Kitty’s memory. She is remembered for her always loving and optimistic spirit.
