Kathleen Woodruff Cherry, age 84, of Williamsburg, passed away September 5, 2024.
Her early work history was with the Daily Press, Camp Peary and The Pentagon. She held secretarial positions and retired as Registrar with the Newport News School System. After retirement, she worked with “An Achievable Dream” and enjoyed the continued student contact. She gave the students the encouragement and guidance they needed to follow a path to success.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leola and Tommy Woodruff. She greeted her family and friends Bev Johnson, Faye Bunn, Christine Gardner Bell and Dale Gardner Teagle and many others who were surely waiting at the gate for her arrival. She was a dedicated member of The Grafton Church for many years and had a profound faith in our Lord and Savior.
She is survived by her sons and grandchildren; David John Cherry and granddaughter, Bailee Cherry, Steven Thomas Cherry (Lori) and grandsons, Landon Hinkle (Tiffany) and great-grandson, Maverick, Brandon Aliff and Austin Phillips. Two sisters are Madeline Woodruff and Lynda Woodruff Arata (Larry) and specially chosen sisters LaVelle Branscome, Oralou Sizemore, Selma Lindsay, Gladys Allen, Virginia Cawthon, and Betty Harris to name only a few. She was a very special aunt to Jenny Crist Hudgins (Troy), Melinda Crist Martin and Tony Crist (Rose) and their children. She was a very special person to many, including cousin Jessie Hilstrom, Lisa Layne, and Cheryl Byrd, who all helped with her care.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service. The family would like to thank all those who showed care and concern during her lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s and related issues. Special thanks to Pastor Sam Goins, of James City Community Church and The Care Team for providing the family with prayer, love and encouragement during the difficult weeks and months.
