Virginia Beach- Kathryn P. Hastings
Kathryn P. Hastings, nee Laskey, wife of Cdr. William S. Hastings, USN Ret left earthly bounds for Heaven Oct. 3, 2009. Kay was the first born, Sept. 7, 1925, of Arthur G. and Evelyn V. Laskey, at Presque Isle, Maine.
Kay graduated from Presque Isle High School, then Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse, as was her mother. In 1949, Kay met Bill on a blind date, arranged by Bill’s dad, Kay’s hospital patient, to attend a circus.
Kay and Bill married Feb. 25, 1951, and moved to Norfolk, VA., where Bill’s ship was home-ported. Kay was in nursing 1944 U.S. Army Cadet Nurse until 1990 Director of Nurses at a nursing home. Kay and Bill lived in Brooklyn, NY, Norfolk, Washington D.C. and California, before settling in beautiful Virginia Beach with daughter, Janet and sons, David and Paul. She is survived by them; daughter-in-law Debbie; granddaughters, Caitlyn, Allison and Emily; grandsons, William, Michael and Warren; two brothers, Morris and Willis Laskey, of Maine. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jean.
A memorial service will be held, Thursday, Oct. 8 at 3pm in Thalia United Methodist Church, 4321 Va Beach Blvd, Va. Beach, VA 23452. Kay’s ashes will be interred in the Church’s Columbarium at a later date.
