Kathryne Avon Towler, age 83, of Richmond, Virginia went to heaven on 7/2/23 after a difficult battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones.

Avon was born in Richmond, VA, on June 7, 1940 and was the only child of Mary Kathryne Lantz of Archbold, Ohio and Norman A Woodson of Fincastle, VA. Her father Norman passed away when she was 2 yrs old after establishing Kamp Kentwood which was a Boy’s Camp in New Kent County.

Avon graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1958.  She met Joseph A Towler who was a pharmacy student at MCV during a party at Kamp Kentwood in New Kent County in 1958.  The 2 were married at “The Little Church Around the Corner” in New York City on September 1, 1959 and enjoyed a 63 year marriage.

Avon was the founder’s daughter and later the operator of Kamp Kentwood Boy’s Camp and later Kamp Kentwood Catering in New Kent County.   She was a Healing Touch Ministry practitioner which is a form of the ancient art of hands-on healing described in the Bible. It involves energy-based approach to healing, working with the energy fields that surround each of us. While not a cure, it aims to promote the restoration of balance and a sense of well-being.

She loved animals and worked many years rescuing American Eskimo dogs.  She tended to rabbits, chickens, chipmunks, goats, parrots, stray cats, and fish.  She was a do-er and a wisdom seeker.   She loved her garden, working the land, countless creative crafts, and her many friends.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, and her 2 step-fathers, Frank A Driscoll of West Point, VA, and Lt. Commander Derek Edmund Creswell Eyres (London, England).

She is survived by her 3 boys: William A Towler (Kate), Michael A Towler (Jane), and Paul W Towler (Thy);  7 grandchildren: James Hobson Towler (Erin), Natalie M. Towler, Sarah K. Towler, Mikaela K Towler, Nicholas R Towler, Connor A Towler, and Hannah N. Towler; and great-granddaughter: Finley P Towler.

The family will hold a small private service at Kamp Kentwood at a later date.
