Kimberly “Kim” Hope (Jones) Hamrick went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2023. After two years of suffering from cancer, Jesus has lifted the burden and has brought her home with his steadfast gaze and presence. During her life, but especially these years, Kim inspired so many through her unwavering faith and love for others and her family.
Kim was born on May 13, 1983 in Norfolk, VA to Ann and John Jones. From the age of 6 forward, Kim and her sister Sarah were raised by grandmother Helen Burdick in Williamsburg and then Chesapeake, VA. Kim graduated from Indian River High School in 2002 and graduated from Radford University with a B.S. in liberal arts in 2006.
In June of 2006, she married the love of her life Matthew Hamrick, and they shared 17 beautiful years of marriage together where they lived in Virginia Beach. Kim and Matt were high school sweethearts and a couple for over 23 years.
Kim saw a unique beauty and call to adoption and trusted God to build her family in the way and timing He desired. Of all her passions, Kim’s favorite role was that of a mother to children Joshua, Kirra, and Leo and creating a loving home. Kim poured herself into her family and found routine moments with her children to be sacred.
For several years, Kim was a caretaker of many family friends’ children and worked in the Virginia Beach Public School system in a variety of positions. For the past four years, Kim excelled in a role she never expected as a group fitness instructor at OneLife gym, where she made many deep connections with a strong community of ladies. Kim was also active at church and many ministries. She loved the beach, watching the ocean, traveling with Matt, surfing, hosting holidays and gatherings, and ensuring that time spent with friends was deeply intentional as she naturally took on the emotions of the people around her. Kim was blessed with an extensive community of lifelong friends, a gratitude she voiced often.
Kim courageously suffered well through cancer, seamlessly holding to conflicting emotions of sorrow and hope. She was faithful to God in the hardest moments and to the end. She did not question why, rather chose to take advantage of the joyful moments of everyday life.
Kim is survived by her loving husband Matt, as well as her children Joshua (9) and Kirra (6), predeceased by her son Leo. She is also survived by her grandmother, Helen Burdick, sister Sarah (David) Mosteirin, and step-brother Tim Goodman. She is predeceased by her mother, Ann Goodman.
Matt, Joshua, and Kirra are extremely grateful for all the love and support over these last two years from family, friends, and their community.
Please join us in celebration for her life at the funeral mass on Friday, August 25th at 12:00pm at Church of the Ascension in Virginia Beach, VA. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 24th from 5-7pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia, Adoption Services.
