Laura Chance – Chesapeake
Mrs. Laura Chance was born in Clementon, NJ on May 21, 1914. She departed this life on Wednesday August 31, 2011 at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Eugene Chance, Sr. and her son Henry Williams. She is survived by a beloved son, George Eugene Chance, Jr., his wife Bonnie Chance, of Jacksonsville, NC and a beloved daughter Rebecca Chance whom she lived with in Chesapeake, VA. She has three grandchildren Dara Chance, Jenna Chance, her son, Jase Chance all of Jacksonville, NC, and Jasmine Lawerence and her husband Steven Lawerence of Pemberton, NJ.
She grew up in Pleasantville, NJ until she moved to New York State and married. Later in life she moved back to New Jersey which she loved. She was a long time member of
Venice Park United Methodist Church of Atlantic City, NJ and loved the people there.
She loved to attend church regularly wherever she lived and enjoyed Sunday rides in the country after the service. However, as her health failed she did not venture out as much.
She was an avid reader and writer and communicated frequently that way with family and friends which included poems and sayings she copied. Her favorite Bible passage was 1 Corinthians 13, and included that at the end of her correspondence. She relaxed by watching baseball on TV.
She always said the first hundred years are the hardest… after that it is all down hill and I almost got my hundred made. Now there are no more hills.
