Lawrence Thomas Belcher, 75, fell asleep June 29, 2020 in Norfolk, VA after a prolonged illness. He was born to Thomas and Renee Belcher on July 2, 1944 in Norfolk, VA. Graduated in 1963 as a Granby Comet where he excelled in Wrestling, Chorus, and the Future Business Leaders of America. Always service minded, he joined the United States Air Force where he was an MP. He was honorably discharged due to a family tragedy involving his mother. Back at home, Larry met the love of his life Mary Frances and were married for 39 years until her passing. Larry spent his employment as a Route Salesman for Wonder Bread, Mary Jane, and Merita Bread Companies for more than 30 years where he had won numerous safety awards. After the physical demands of this type of work Larry retired at 68, 1 year after the passing of his beloved wife.
Larry was a devout Catholic and had been an active member of his church at various stages of his life: St.Pius X, St. Gregory’s, St. Mark’s, and Christ the King. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved singing in the chorus with his wife and Betty Thomas. Larry spent his retirement with his grandchildren, who called their grandfather “Poppy Fox.” He also enjoyed spending time dancing and lots of conversing at the Ocean View Senior Center and the Norfolk Wellness Center. Larry was a gentle, kind, loving man who always had a reason to spark up a conversation with anybody.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Belcher and wife Noelle; 4 grandchildren; son, Chris Belcher; his loving sister Jean Packard and brother Mark; his beloved Pearl Krynski and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to recognize and give thanks to all of the helping hands at Stonebridge Manor and countless friends and family who have been watchful of Dad along his journey to be reunited with his beloved wife.
