Virginia Beach- Lena Reed passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, November 27, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born in Bellaire, Ohio to Dominico and Maria Assunta (Barbieri) Tedeschi on December 14, 1923. Lena was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Linton McKinley Reed, Jr. She worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC as a secretary to a number of U.S. Congressmen for more than 35 years.
Lena was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan with season tickets! During retirement Lena and Linton spent their time together “Snow Birding” in Florida with friends, driving across the U.S. as far as Seattle with stops at National Monuments in the Midwest and elsewhere in pursuit of Linton’s passion to sing with the Alexandria Harmonizers, one of the greatest men’s choruses on the East Coast. Lena enjoyed dinner theater, concerts, shopping and lunch with her neighbors and dearest friend Anna in Woodbridge, VA. She traveled with her garden club, enjoyed crossword puzzles and had a reputation as an excellent Bingo player.
Lena is survived by her daughter Linda (Susie) LaFrance and her husband Keith of Virginia Beach, VA. Her surviving nephews and nieces are: Lawrence and Carla Tedeschi, and their children, Carissa and Christopher; Sue Cothern and her son Jace; Mark and Yasemin Tedeschi and their daughters Alexandra and Gabriela; and Julie Girone and her daughter Mary. Lena was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lawrence and sister-in-law Gloria Tedeschi and her sister Angie and brother-in-law Angelo Girone.
The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Lena’s long time personal companion Claudia, the staff and the many “silent angels” at Harbourway, Marina Bay and Seaside Health Center at Atlantic Shores, Virginia Beach, VA. The family also thanks Lena’s nurses, Linda and Amy and the staff at Comfort Care Hospice for their compassionate care.
Lena will join Linton in eternal rest at Pohick Church Cemetery in Lorton, VA.
