Leon Mackey, aged 83, passed away on January 14, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA. Born on January 5, 1942, in South Dakota, Leon lived a life marked by dedication to his country and cherished moments with loved ones.
Leon proudly served as a Senior Chief in the United States Navy, retiring after many years of honorable service. His career took him across the seas, but his heart always remained anchored with his family and friends. Known for his love of life’s simple pleasures, Leon was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, enjoying an ice-cold beer and sharing stories.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Earl and Wilba Mackey. He leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship, cherished by his dear friend, Cori Uruhart, and numerous family members and friends who had the privilege of knowing him.
Leon will be remembered for his warmth and the joy he brought into every room. Though no services will be held in Virginia, those who knew Leon can find comfort in the thought that he is now dancing in heaven, forever celebrating a life well-lived.
In lieu of services, the family invites those who wish to honor Leon’s memory to share a toast in his name, remembering the laughter and love he brought into their lives.
