Leroy R. James
Virginia Beach – Leroy Robert James, 96, went home to a room made ready for him by the Lord, on February 10, 2016. He peacefully left this world with his loving wife by his side while at home.
Born January 22, 1920, in Norfolk, Virginia, he was the son of the late Mary Knapp, step father Carl Knapp and father Frank James. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Norma Doss, also of Norfolk, Virginia. The couple was married in 1949 and together enjoyed 66 years of loving marriage and family life.
An Army Veteran of World War II, he served with the 36th Field Artillery Division in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, receiving six bronze Service Stars and one bronze Service Arrowhead. He also retired from the Civil Service with 31 years of service.
He was a long time member of Haygood United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons Robert (Karen), Larry (Tammy), Wesley (Virginia) and Dana (Leasa); nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren that are a source of great joy, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Jessie James, Charles Knapp and Carl Knapp; and two sisters Kate Saunders and Baby Helen James.
A private gathering of family and friends will be arranged at a later date.
