Lillian Ann Hanes, 98, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024. She is survived by her daughters Sharon Metz and Cora Lynn Hanes, grandchildren, Anthony McClenny and Amy Rivera-Cortes (Rico), and great- granddaughters, Ana and Avery Jarrell.
She is known for her quick wit, brilliance at the bridge table, expertise at the sewing machine, twinkle in her eyes, devotion to her beloved church community and immense love for her extended family and friends.
Born in Fairmont, West Virginia, she attended Fairmont State College. While she excelled as a career secretary, her greatest role and source of pride was as a grandmother. She was an avid reader, reading more than one book at a time supported by having one to read in every room of her home.
She was the last surviving sibling of 11 children born to Cora and Nicholas Nash.
Ann will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A committal service will be held at 2pm, Monday, November 4 at Old Donation Episcopal Church Memorial Garden in Virginia Beach. To fulfill our promise to her and according to her wishes there will be no reception following the service.
