Lucile Ruth Kuhl Bell, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away in Virginia Beach VA on June 15, 2011. She was born on September 26, 1917 in Chelsea Michigan to Ella Eschelbach and Louis Kuhl. Lucile is survived by two daughters, Marsha Lucile Bell Melvyn Bailey of Sandpoint ID, and Patricia Bell Williams Paul Williams of Norfolk VA, two grandchildren, Casey Ruth Williams Morgan Butler of Charlottesville VA and Boyden Douglas Williams Sonya Williams of Arnold, MD and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Harper Williams, of Arnold MD.
Moving to Ann Arbor MI after high school, she met and married on June 21, 1941, Oliver Hyde Bell, a UofM engineering student from Jordanville NY. They settled in Detroit MI. She retired as a beautician from JL Hudson Co. For many years she lived in Grosse Pointe Farms MI. As a companion to elderly citizens, Lucile loved taking them to appointments, out to lunch, to the theater and, most of all, shopping.
In 2000 she moved to Westminster-Canterbury W-C in Virginia Beach Virginia to be near her family. She and her son in law designed her apartment with a particularly large kitchen to accommodate her love of cooking and baking. As an avid quilter, she leaves several beautiful quilts to her family. To escape the summer heat, she spent summers in Idaho with Marsha and Mel, traveling through the Northwest, boating on Lake Pend O’Reille and partying with their friends, The Prime Timers.
We are grateful for the kind, compassionate care the staff extended to our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Employee Emergency Fund at Westminster-Canterbury, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. A celebration of her life will be Monday, June 20, 2011, at 2 PM in the Chapel at W-C with The Rev. Gregory Dalle-Tezze officiating. To reminisce and share stories, a reception will be held in the Anderson Bay Room immediately following the service. Messages of comfort and condolence may be left with The Cremation Society of Virginia/Tidewater at www.cremate.org.
