In loving memory of our dearest mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Lucy Marie Martini. Lucy left this world on to her next adventure on May 19, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Lucy was born December 13, 1934, in Buffalo, NY. She moved to San Francisco, CA with her family as a young Navy Brat. Additional moves to Key West, FL, back to Long Beach, CA, and then to Key West again where she graduated from high school in 1953. She met and fell in love with Daniel Vincent Martini Sr while he was stationed in Key West. They married and built a life on Havana Street with their three loving children and her beloved German Shepherds. Tiring of hurricanes and extreme heat, she moved her family to the Hampton Roads area where there are all four seasons of weather. Later they moved to Sandbridge in Virginia Beach. Sandbridge was a place Lucy truly loved and spoke of often.
Lucy had a long career with Virginia ABC. She was the first woman hired by them. Her career started with them in 1976. She worked in many of their stores over the 25 years and worked her way up to Assistant Manager. She retired in 2002. She truly loved her job and co-workers. Retiring was a hard choice for her.
One of the most important parts of her life was her AA community. Lucy began this life changing journey as a support to her dear friend, James “Jimbo” Moore. She would attend the meetings to be there for him when he started his sobriety. She picked up her first white chip on January 1, 1985. She credits the AA 12-Step Program with saving her life. From that day on, she devoted all her time and love to working the program and helping others on their journey. This mentoring meant everything to her. Lucy had a strong spiritual faith. People would go up to Lucy “LuLu” and say, “I want what you have and can you help me?” Lucy would do just that. She was loved very much by her AA community.
Lucy is predeceased by her mother Angelina LaMonaco, her father Nicholas Cartonia, and her siblings Jospeh Cartonia, Frank Cartonia, John Hulzing and Bobby Hulzing. She is survived by her daughter Celeste Jacqueline Martini, her sons Vincent Harold Martini(Laura) and Daniel Vincent Martini Jr(Sharyn), her grandchildren Rachel(Dave), Natalia, Trevor and Zachary, her great-grandchildren Marco and Bentley, her brother Edward Hulzing(Sharon), her former husband Daniel Vincent Martini Sr and his daughter Kristin Baumbaugh (Scott), her former son-in-law Rodger Gregory(Gwen) and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
Lucy’s legacy is the love she leaves with us. She could be a fiery spitfire on occasion. Her family says that was the Sicilian in her. Mostly she was a strong loving and caring person to everyone. She was also a wonderful dog momma and grandmomma to many well-loved pets. Her family, friends and pets meant the world to her. She will be greatly missed by so many.
