Lynn Harrison Pope lost her battle with Cancer and peacefully passed away on July 29th , 2024 with her son Kevin by her side. Lynn was born on September 19th , 1954 to Paul and Teresa Harrison in Princeton, New Jersey.
The family moved to Skillman, New Jersey in the 60’s. She graduated from Western Maryland College, know known as McDaniel College, and took up teaching in New Jersey. She helped her Father with the family Farm and had 2 horses, Rachael and Iggy, She was an avid equestrian, competing in many competitions.
Lynn met Roger Pope, the love of her life in the 90’s and they were married in 1996. She and her horses moved to Virginia Beach. In 1998 the couple was blessed with a son, Kevin. He was the center of Lynn’s universe. She and Roger attended all Kevin’s baseball and basketball games until he graduated and went away to JMU. Her family was her number one priority. After her Dad died, she brought her Mom to Virginia Beach where she took care of her until she passed away at 100. When Roger, her husband became ill, she cared for him as well until he passed away in 2020.
In 1997, Lynn took a teaching job with Norfolk City Schools during that time she got her Master’s Degree from Averett University. She was an Art Teacher and Department Head at Lake Taylor Middle for over 20 years. She was an outstanding teacher and loved by all. She received the “Rock Star” Award this year.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, Lynn was predeceased by her husband Roger and brother Paul Harrison Jr. Left to cherish her memory is their son Kevin. Kevin would like to thank all her friends and colleagues from Norfolk City schools who came by to see her and the Doctors and Nurses at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital for their care and compassion during her final journey.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10th , 2024 at Altmeyer Funeral Home 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a service.
