Chesapeake ~ Mabel Durham Dozier was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on July 16, 1950 to Henry Watson Dozier and Sue Mangum Dozier. Although she had no siblings, she was part of a large, loving family of cousins in Raleigh and Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Mae graduated high school from Needham Broughton in 1968 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting at East Carolina University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1997. She received CPA Certifications from the NC Association and the American Institute of CPA.
Mae lived in Massachusetts and then Greenville, North Carolina while she was married. She settled in Chesapeake, Virginia where she began her career with the US Coast Guard in December 1998. She was hired permanently in the Finance Center in December 2004 and was preparing to retire later in 2020 with 21 years of service
Mae was an adventurer. For many years she spent vacations scuba diving in and around Bonaire and traveling to the Southwest where she loved hiking, participating in native ceremonies, and engaging in the local culture. She was naturally drawn to the beauty of crystals and loved being with friends she had made over the years at the gem shows.
Her two Himalayan cats were her special boys, and she spoiled them accordingly. Her other passion was being outside and taking care of herself. She adhered mostly to a vegetarian diet and walked about three miles a day. She loved to work in her yard, spread out bags of mulch and plant flowers.
Mae earned a Master Wirkus Bioeneregy certificate from Mietek Wirkus whom she worked with for many years at Wells Therapeutic in Virginia Beach. Mietek and his wife, Margaret traveled from Poland to the U.S. several times each year and Mae treasured her time with them, scheduling appointments and being with their clients. Mae volunteered on weekends during conferences at The Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.).
Mae lived her life doing what she loved and she shared her love, talents and heart with everyone. When I think of her personal accomplishments, her commitment to help others and her gentle yet confident demeanor, there is one word that summarizes her life, and that is authenticity.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor would be appreciated to the Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.), 215 67th Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
