Virginia Beach ~ Manolita V. Pitts, 89, of First Colonial Inn, passed away on Friday, November 20. A native of Alicante, Spain, she was the daughter of the late Alfonso Verdu and Josefina Tari. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Edward Pitts in the year 2000.
Mrs. Pitts came to live in the US in 1966 with her husband. As they made moves with the United States Marines, they lived in California and North Carolina but her last 30 years she lived in Virginia Beach. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She also was active in her local Spanish club, Rincon Espana. She loved bowling and cards, hosting many card games at her home over the years. She especially loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with them.
In addition to being predeceased by her husband and parents, Mrs. Pitts was also predeceased by two sisters, Angelita and Teresa and one brother, Pepito. Left to cherish her memory are her children: son- Miguel P Verdu and his wife, Sharon; daughters-Paulina P Killingbeck and her husband, Tom; and Edith P Johnson and her husband, Jay. Her grandchildren include Josh Verdu, Emily Verdu Kittrell and her husband, Bennett, Miguel Killingbeck and his wife, Sasha, Cristina Killingbeck and Vern Lieb, Tatiana Pitts, Deanna Pitts and Jaylynn Johnson. Great grandchildren include Madison Johnson, Olivia Killingbeck and Lay’Loni Johnson. Her brother, Juan Antonio Verdu, continues to reside in Spain as well as two sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, November 25 at 11 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church located at 1396 Lynnhaven Parkway, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23453. Visitation with family will immediately follow. Attendees must wear masks and observe social distancing.
