Marcella “Darlene” Bishop passed away on May 19, 2025. She was born in Tennessee, in 1942 to very loving parents. Her father was in the military. He later retired from the service and the family then lived in a neighborhood in Norfolk. Darlene graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School in 1960.
When Darlene was a teenager, her father subscribed to the local newspaper. Every day she would watch for the cute delivery boy to bring a newspaper to her house. She knew immediately that he was the one for her! She would greet him as she took the newspaper and they would share a few words. Over the years, they fell in love and married. She and her husband welcomed a son into the family. He brought them great joy and love.
Darlene’s career included: Director of Norfolk Better Business Bureau and later, Office Manager at McGuire Woods LLP in Norfolk.
After retirement, Darlene often traveled with friends. She loved those opportunities. The trips included Europe, cities in the United States and a cruise to Canada.
She loved Christmas and would spend hours decorating the house. The house always looked like Santa’s workshop. She personally made many of the tree ornaments.
And, Easter was as fascinating as Christmas. There were many, many Easter Bunny statues and decorations. It was so much fun! She was also an amazing chef and her dinners were scrumptious.
Another constant presence in their home were Chihuahua dogs. Darlene’s mother had loved and raised them as well.
Darlene was such a special lady and she will be greatly missed.
