Margaret Elaine Kirk Newton-Jones was escorted to the Lord by her guardian angels on her birthday, March 10. She fought a courageous 19-year battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Blanche J. Kirk of Elkton, Maryland.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 31 years, R. Harold Jones, sister Betty J. (Lorin) Krusberg of Lanhum, Maryland, brother Charles A. Kirk, Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, son Christopher F. Newton and wife Mora, granddaughter Olivia Newton and step-grandchildren, Taina and Noelani.
Margaret graduated from Elkton High School and went on to study at Salisbury University and Virginian Wesleyan College majoring in business management and accounting respectively. Upon moving to Virginia Beach in the 1970’s she became manager of Sandbridge Market. In later years, she accepted a position with Mechanical Systems Support in Norfolk where she ascended to company President. She also owned and operated the Heart and Hand Gallery at the Countryside Shops in Virginia Beach.
Margaret lived her entire life with a contagious spirit of hope, faith, and love. During her battle with cancer she fought for life with a constant smile on her face and unrelenting courage in her heart, always caring about others more than herself. She enjoyed traveling, dining out, spending time with family and friends, art, music and the beauty of the outdoors. Margaret was a very active member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, serving on numerous Boards and committees.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 AM Saturday, March 21, at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church located at 1265 Sandbridge Road. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made in Margaret’s name to Tabernacle United Methodist Church Heritage Fund or the American Cancer Society.
