She was one of seven children of Henry H. Hayes and Ethel Jumper Hayes. She was a 1944 graduate of Beaver High School. She married Charles T. Litz in 1947 and moved to Norfolk in 1954. They raised a family and resided 58 years in Norfolk until Charles’ death in 1998. Margaret remained in her treasured home until 2012.
Margaret enjoyed flower gardening and maintaining her immaculate yard. She had a knack for making plants flourish and bloom. She was a proud grandmother, who treated the youngsters to special meals, their favorite homemade cookies, and tea parties. Her pecan sandies and fresh fruit salad were the traditional highlight of every family occasion. Margaret served as a faithful, active member of First Lutheran Church, Norfolk. At her death, she was the second longest congregant, having attended for 60 years. She was a devoted attendee and friend of the ladies of the Lydia Circle. She delighted in providing rides to ladies for church services, circle meetings, or medical appointments.
Margaret is survived by her son, John T. Litz (Patricia) of Virginia Beach, VA, son, Eric E. Litz (Pam) of Tallahassee, FL, and daughter, Myra Litz Stewart of Bay Shore, NY; six grandchildren, Tiffany Litz-Clifton (Scott), C. Brad Litz, Amy Lato (Scott), Rebecca Litz, Ian Stewart, and Haley Stewart; and 3 great grandchildren, Quinn Clifton, Piper Clifton, and Sam Lato.
