Whether she was called Mom, Titi Liz, Marie, Mrs. Soto or Mrs. Montrose —- all were affectionately spoke when addressing one beautiful soul — my mom!

Marie was born in N.Y.C. on May 4, 1932 to parents, Pedro and Bianca Murphy and passed on May 27, 2023. She was blessed with 91 years on this earth. She was the oldest of 4 girls, with sisters Carol, Shirley, and Jean.

Marie leaves behind 2 of 4 children, having buried her oldest sons, Ralph and David. She is survived by children, Daniel and Dawn along with their wives, Enid and Pat; step daughters, Lynn, Shelly, and Judy; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters, Carol and Jean; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marie was married twice. She lost her first love, Luis Soto in 1979. She met and married her second love, David Montrose in 1983 and enjoyed 36 years together. Sadly, David passed in 2021.

Unable to finish school due to childhood illness, Marie went back to school at the young age of 35 to get her GED. Enjoying the experience, she continued her education and received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree. She advanced in her career until retiring from the New York Health and Hospitals Corporation. She and David moved to Newport News, VA in 1998. She then found a church and new friends blessed from the Lord for the last 25 years in Virginia.
