Virginia Beach resident Marilyn Rose Tenholder Dooley peacefully died in her home on Thursday, June 3, 2021.

Marilyn grew up in Texas and married John Patrick Dooley sixty-five years ago this month. Together they raised eight children: Michael Dooley (deceased), Kelly McMillan, Eileen Kokosinski, Tim Dooley, Patsy Eikenbary, Elle Coleman, Margie Guzik, and Terry Dooley. In addition, she leaves behind her seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 11, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association.

My sincere condolences to John and the entire Dooley clan. I've known John and Marilyn now for almost 30 years. I always sensed that mom was the strength that held the family together while dad's wit and stories were always entertaining. It is an honor and a joy knowing members of the family for all these years. May eternal life be granted unto her. I am sure she will live in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Peace to John and your family right now. Our family sat by Marilyn and John at 5:30 Saturday Mass at St. Nick's. John and Marilyn would also visit Central Library where I work. Dear John and Family: My most heartfelt condolences on your loss. The memory of her steadfast support for all the wives during the long 10-month deployment of the squadron to Vietnam will always be remembered with admiration and gratitude. Her best friend at that difficult time, Gladys, awaits with open arms and warm embrace.

Mom was the best mom I could have hoped for! She was so funny and loving and one of my best friends I’ve ever had. She has always been there for me and my brothers and sisters. Her faith in God was and still is a huge inspiration for me, and I miss her so much! I love you, Mom. I know you’re resting in the arms of Jesus!!
