Marilyn Elizabeth (Trulio) Golden, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born May 2, 1939 to Charles Frances Trulio and Gladys Louise Schroeder in New York City, New York. Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, Edward J. Golden, Jr. on June 18, 1960 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Ossining, NY.
After her children started school, so did she. Marilyn graduated from Pace University, Lienhard School of Nursing. She began her career in the Emergency Department of Phelps Memorial Hospital and several years later she became the Office Manager for Dr. Arnold Salop’s practice in Ossining. She then went on to run a successful HMR, a weight management program in Ossining before returning to Phelps Memorial as the Director of Volunteers for several years. After retiring from Phelps Memorial Hospital to her Beach Home, she embarked on a second career by lending support, suggestions, advice, friendship and leadership as the Director Clinical Operations at Volunteers in Medicine of Cape May County (VIM), a program for uninsured working families, which serves more than 3,000 people and provides more than 15,000 patient visits annually. Marilyn was also a very active member, and held various leadership roles, in Saint Augustine’s Church and School, the Ossining Women’s Club, Columbiettes, and Soroptimist. When her children were young, Marilyn was one of the original organizers of the annual St. Patrick’s Play at Saint Augustine’s School.
In her personal life, our beloved Naunie was a radiant force of joy and warmth. With her infectious laugh and outgoing personality, she had an ability to light up any room she entered. Whether she was spending quality time with family and friends, enjoying a lady’s day at a local concert or show, delving into the latest novel for her book club, capturing precious moments behind her camera lens, or savoring good food and cocktails, she embraced life with gusto. A devoted Catholic, her faith illuminated every aspect of her being, guiding her actions and interactions with unwavering love and kindness. Her passion for golf and the simple pleasures of enjoying the beach were certain, and nothing brought her greater joy than hosting “Camp Golden” at the beach house in the summertime for her beloved grandchildren. And even though she never knew where her phone was or if it was even powered on, her amazing ear for listening and boundless love for others left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Marilyn is survived by her loving children, Lisa (Bruce) McCoy of Virginia Beach, VA, Kelly Golden of Fishkill, NY, and daughter-in-law, Marianna (Battista) Golden of Hopewell Junction, NY. Naunie is also survived by her five wonderful grandchildren: Logan (Natalie) McCoy, Brenna McCoy, and EJ, Matthew and Robert Golden; her sister Eileen (Trulio) Sarcone, brother-in-law Randy (Dana) Golden, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Marilyn is predeceased by her parents, her husband Edward Joseph Golden, Jr. in 1991 and son Edward Joseph Golden, III in 2017.
