Born to Ambrose and Mary (Edie) Boman, Martha grew up in Sibley, MO on the family farm. After graduating from Fort Osage High School (1957) in Independence, MO, she went to business school and worked as a bookkeeper. In 1960, she married her true love, Robert Allen in Kansas City, MO. After many naval stations, they made their home in Virginia Beach. Along with raising their children, they always opened their home and heart to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her two children Marsha (Todd) and Scott (Brandy), two grandsons, a granddaughter, her longtime friend Reba Callis, and leagues of fellow bowlers.
Bowling was Martha’s passion for over 45 years – she was always on 2-3 leagues where she was known for providing anyone with their favorite sweets and dutifully serving as league secretary/treasurer. She worked for multiple years in the local association office, coached youth, and was honored to be a state and national delegate. Each year, she traveled to the women’s national tournament – proudly achieving 25 years of participation.
She was an avid sports fan from playing high school basketball to cheering for pro and college basketball and football teams (Redskins, Chiefs). She loved times with her grandchildren, her family, and her cats; and trying her luck in cards, the slots, and cooking one-dish recipes.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00a at Christian Church Uniting. A luncheon and bowling celebration of her life will follow from 12:30-3:30p at AMF Indian River Lanes, 6660 Indian River Rd, VB. Bring your memories to share and bowl a few frames to honor Martha! (Bowling balls and shoes will be provided or bring your own).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Martha Allen to: Special Olympics Area 2 Virginia Bowling, the Sidney Oman Cancer Center, local veterans groups, animal rescue organizations, or your favorite charity.
Thank you to family, friends, nursing staff, and the Sidney Oman Cancer Center who provided encouragement and care to Martha and her family. Your welcoming smile, positive attitude, and spunky spirit will be missed – We love you! Ten pins in the sky forever.
