Martha C. Hard, 88, passed away Nov. 15, 2011. She was born Oct. 23, 1923, in Mathews, VA. Her family later moved to Pittsfield, MA, where she attended high school and got her degree in Nursing from Bishop Memorial School of Nursing.
In 1982, she returned to Virginia Beach to be near her daughter. While there, she helped Westminster Canterbury open their new health care wing and became their first director of nursing.
Martha is survived by her four children William Hard, Bruce Hard, Warren Hard and Jane Barrett; her two grandchildren Ashley Hard and Morgan Barrett; her siblings Tina Campbell, Dorothy Lay, Pauline Giacoletto, and George Chapman along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends
Martha was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many who adored her. Her generosity of spirit and kindness will remain with us always.
A memorial service will be held in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate.org.
