Mary Ann Vita, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 31st, 2016. Born January 9th, 1931, in Norfolk to Ambrose & Anna May Atkins, she was happily married to Joseph Edwin Vita, who preceded her in death, for almost 54 years. Mary Ann is survived by their six children, Vincent Edwin Vita, Robert Douglas Vita, Lindsey Thomas Vita, Judy Vita MacDonald, David Andrew Vita and Anna Vita Lee, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mary Ann continuously filled her family’s home with love, happiness and delicious food. After her children were grown, she enjoyed a 14 year career at Leggett Department Store, where she made many lifelong friends. Mary Ann enjoyed outings with family & friends, gardening, ballroom dancing, writing poetry, going to the beach, reading and curling up for a good nap with her dog, Tino.
A memorial service will be held at The Lesner Inn at 3319 Shore Drive in Virginia Beach at 11am on Sunday, February 5th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad (vbvrs.org). Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the dedicated and compassionate staff at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
