Mary Elizabeth (Lightcap) McKenrick, a resident of Reading, PA, passed away at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, VA on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the age of 71 from an interstitial chronic lung disease. Mary was born to Robert and Elizabeth (Betty) Lightcap.  She was a graduate of Pottstown High School, Class of 1972.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Silvester “Buddy” McKenrick, her parents Bob and Betty Lightcap, her brother Wallace (Wally) Lightcap, and her sisters Virginia (Ginny) Moser and Karen Perillo. Her beloved remaining siblings include her sister, Sarah (Sally) spouse of Randy Day and brother, Robert (Bob) Lightcap husband of Lisa, and brothers-in-law Alfred Moser and Tony Perillo. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Sherry Holman with partner Daniel and Bob Holman with spouse Sara, five grandchildren, Carlie, Samantha, April, Emily, and Rachael, and five great-grandchildren, Rosalynn, Sebastian, Fraser, Mateo, and Wyatt. Mary also has a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that thought of her as “Mommom Mary.”

Mary served our country as Army veteran and she retired from the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster. She continued to serve as the lead for the UPMA college scholarship fund.  She was an active member of New Hanover United Methodist  Church as well as the Ringing Hill Fire Company. Mary’s favorite hobbies included snuggling with her cat (Sugar), playing BINGO with her family, and shopping, especially for purses. Mary loved to travel around the Country missing her bucket list of visiting all 50 states by only seven states.

A celebration of life / birthday party for Mary is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 2024 @ 12:00pm located at 2766 W. Philadelphia Avenue in Oley, PA.  There will be a Veterans’ Honor Guard Flag Service at 1:00pm.  Condolences may be sent to her daughter Sherry Holman at 1365 Friedensburg Road, Reading PA 19606.
