Mary Frances Blanks, 84, passed away from this life on June 25, 2021. Born to Alma Greene Phillips and George Willard Phillips in Beaver Dam, (Watauga County), N.C. on January 23, 1937, Mary loved to dance with her friends at Parents Without Partners and she was an avid reader who loved her family and friends dearly.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Mike, Mark and Steve, all of Hampton; two brothers, Burl and John of North Ridgeville, Ohio; sister, Ruth Dorton, also of North Ridgeville and five half siblings, Kate Bird, Blanche Wilson, Gladys Powers and George and Lloyd Phillips and brother-in-law, Larry Oliver

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Shannon Fleming of Hampton; Granddaughters, Samantha Lynn Fleming (William Marshall) of Hampton; four great-grandchildren, Kassidy Snow, William Snow, Henry Raynor, Jr and Mya Raynor of Hampton; sister, Sylvia Jean Phillips of Seattle, WA; brother, Earl Dean Phillips (Mary Jane) of Brunswick, Ohio; sister, Sheryl Oliver of Scarbro, WV; sister-in-law, Edie Phillips of North Ridgeville and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 pm on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Parkview Baptist Church, Newport News, VA. Luncheon to follow in the church Fellowship Hall, hosted by Brenda Jones, Mary’s best friend.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with their arrangements.
