Mary Jean Badlam, a beloved matriarch and beacon of inspiration, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, in Williamsburg, VA, at the age of 86. Born on May 25, 1939, in Ogdensburg, NY, she lived a life filled with love, creativity, and service to others.
A proud graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy, Mary Jean carried her passion for learning and growth throughout her life. Her career as a Store Associate at the UPS Store was marked by her unwavering dedication and kindness, earning her the admiration of colleagues and customers alike.
Mary Jean’s vibrant spirit found expression in her many interests, including ceramics, puzzling, and woodworking. Each piece she crafted told a story of patience and imagination, reflecting her keen eye for beauty and detail. Her creative endeavors were not just hobbies but gifts to those around her, leaving behind treasured mementos of her joyful spirit.
Her greatest joy, however, was in giving back to her community through volunteer work. Mary Jean believed in the power of small acts of kindness and made it her mission to spread warmth and support wherever she could. Her legacy of compassion and generosity continues to inspire all who knew her.
Family was the heart of Mary Jean’s world. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Robert and Emma Dean; her devoted husband, Fred (Rick) Badlam; and her cherished son, Frederick L. (Freddie) Badlam. She is survived by her dear son, Michael Steven Badlam, and daughter-in-law, Lori Boyer, who brought immense joy and pride into her life.
Her family tree flourished with the love of her nephew, Steven Michael Badlam, and nieces, Dr. Jessica B. Crabb, Emily R. Lemieux, and Audrey L. Badlam. She adored her grandchildren, Jason M. Badlam, Michael S. Badlam Jr., Vanessa M. Badlam, Brooke E. Badlam, and Connor D. Badlam, along with her great-grandchildren, Madison, Ethan, Kenly, Hannah, Kollins, and Nova Mae. Her legacy continues through her great-nephews, Levi and Max, and great-nieces, Beatrice and Maeve.
